Steering coupler question

hey everyone, me and my dad are replacing my steering rack this weekend and just wanted to know about the piece that bolts onto the short output shaft coming out of the steering rack. I'm pretty sure it's called a coupler but when I look up pictures of a steering shaft coupler it looks nothing like that. Anyway from what I've read you only have to unbolt two clamp bolts and slide it up right? We've unbolted the lowest and highest bolts on the coupler which I'm pretty sure are the clamp bolts but the thing will not slide up. We've used a hammer and chisel on it with no luck. So are we going about this the right way and it's just really stuck on or are there more bolts we must take off?

Thans a lot as always! Andrew

Did you remove the bolt (12mm)? Or just loosen it? You have to completely take the bolt all the way out, then you can slide the steering shaft off the top of the steering gear.

Can anybody confirm that we're on the right track? We need to get it done today. So just those two clamp bolts and it should slide up right?

I had to use some penetrating oil (PB Blaster) and I had to spread the clamp with a screw driver to slide mine up. Maybe you have it cocked at an angle and it is bound up?

Good luck.
