Okay I have a 98 taco with the 3.4 5sp.
sometimes my truck just makes the click sound to start the truck and sometimes it makes a half start them stop. Some it makes it all the way and turns over. BUT sometimes when it does start the starter stayes on. I turn the key off and the starter stayes on I turn the key to on and then off. What is wrong with this thing? Bad battery, starter, solonoid? Please help Also how bad is it to have the starter stay on for like 3-4 seconds? Thanks

Pretty bad if it stays on that long. I think I had the same symptoms some time back and I just had the whole starter replaced and it solved that, but I heard that it may be your starter contacts inside the solenoid which are a whole lot cheaper to replace than the starter itself... you may want to look into that.
