Squeaky Belt Fix

Hey guys and gals, I have had a squeak coming from the hood for a few weeks now and thought it was attributed to the cold and little salt that has been on the road this winter. I finally got fed up and went to Pep Boys and bought some CRC Belt Conditioner $4 !!!

I have never heard of this and was actually there to buy some CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner and I saw this stuff and said what the hell. I got in the parking lot, poped the hood and sprayed the belts like the can said to. Started the truck and when it did the belts made even more noise...frustratedi sprayed again after about 10 minutes and drove home. When i got home the belts were quiet as can be. I didnt believe it worked so i waited for everything to cool down and went outside about 4 hours later and whala! problem solved!

It says use it every 3,00 miles/oil change. Has anyone ever used it or something like it? Is it safe (it claims to condition) ? Please post feedback if you have praise or concern for this product.

It's safe and it does what it's supposed to do, but remember...it's a bandaid. A belt shouldn't squeak unless there is something behind it, ie. a worn pulley/belt. A friend of mine had the same problem, used some belt dressing which sold the problem but brought it back. His solution was to adjust the tightness on the belt which is real easy.

You'd have to tell me which truck you have, all trucks are different. You could also try searching the forum and/or google, which should yield you the answer pretty quick.

My '90's belts squeaked frequently. New belts used did the trick but it would come back rather quickly which turned out to be a misaligned pulley. Until I had the pulley fixed, I would use the spray whenever it squeaked bad enough to either embarrass or annoy me.

Most of the time they just need to be tightened to stop the squeek.
......it's often a good idea to just replace the belts at the same time when doing so.

When did you replace them last or when were they replaced last?

If the answer is "I don't know for sure" then change them, they are cheap even at the dealer.
