Spring over axle?
#2
What vehicle is it being done to. I'm sure there are differences based on the vehicle, but in general terms, the springs are re-located to the top of the axle, the knuckles are cut, turned, and welded back in place. It's generally recommended to go to a hi-steer setup.
Benefits are that you continue using the soft stock springs, which usually allow for more/easier flex than stiffer lift springs.

All 4x4 Toyota pickup trucks and 4Runners were sprung OVER axle from the factory. The only ones that were sprung UNDER are Land Cruisers.
I don't think you really HAVE to cut and turn the knuckles unless you want, but you HAVE to cut and relocate the spring perches.
