Speed sensor replacement early 90's 4 runner?

Speed sensor replacement early 90's 4 runner?

I am considering trading my BMW for an early 90's 4runner sr5 4wd that is in awesome shape, except you have to shift it manually(auto trans) and the owner says all it needs is a speed sensor to be able to shift? Is this a common problem, if so is it hard to replace and what does the price of the part usually run?

Please help! I want to know some info asap. I went and drove the vehicle. Interior is nice, exterior is pretty nice, but I did have to bump up the gears when driving. When in drive, the trans acts like it is in neutral, but when you start in L, then bump up to 2 and then D it does fine, same when downshifting. I just need to know if this is going to be a headache to fix or if I should go ahead and get it. Thanks for any help!
