Spedometer Change elec and cable
I was thinking of replacing my electric spedometer trans out of my 93 4cyl 4runner and replacing with a cable driven trans out of a 89 4runner. Is there anyway to hook up the cable where the electric used to go on the cluster, or do i have to get a new cluster. My brother has an 89 pickup and his cluster "looks" exactly the same but he has a cable driven spedometer. If i put a cable driven cluster in my 4runner would it work or would the wiring harness hook ups be completely different.

All the cables will hook directly up, just get the correct type (cable or electric)... And as for the cruise control i dont know if there is any difference, i would not think that has anything to do with the cluster except for the cruise light, which should not be a big deal.
And you say your cruise does not work, and dont plan on fixing it... What is wrong with it? I am looking to add cruise to my truck, could i take it off your hands?
Where are you located?

so what your saying is if i can find a cluster from a 89 90 ish vehicle that is cable driven i can just slip it in and its plug and play where the electric driven cluster was? My cruise control just doesnt engage, i only had the truck for a week and havent even looked at it, the previous owner just told me it didnt work i havent even tried it yet. I also live in Newfoundland Canada so usually buying and selling things to the states isnt a good idea. But what i said in the beginning is correct?

Yes, the connections on the harness are the same... The connection for the speedometer is different though, and as long as you are changing the transmission (where the sender/gearbox are) you have to change the speedometer connection as well. Yes you were correct.
Also, what engine do you have?
And i dont think its that big of a deal that you are in canada, the cruise system should be the same. I would be willing to buy the system off you (everything except the wiring and buttons that are part if the steering wheel)

alright thanks Morphias X im taking a transmission outta a 89 22re 4runner (cable driven spedometer)and putting it in a 93 22re 4runner ( Electric spedometer). I would like to hold on to my cruise for the time being because after looking around here it seems like there could be some very simple fixes for the cruise control. If i cant fix it or its too hard of a job though ill try to let you know

Does anybody here have an 89 or newer pickup or 90 (i think) 4runner with a cable driven spedometer cluster, that has a tach, and the 4 side to side moving gauges. If anyone can help me does your cluster have 3 or 4 sets of electrical wires coming out the back? I know most of the older ones only have 4 but i do not own another one of these to check on.
