I am going to be changing the spark plugs on my Taco whithin the next couple of days and I was wondering what are the best plugs to use. I know a lot of people say to use only OEM plugs, but I was just wondering if anyone else has any opinions. This will be on my '99 4X4 Taco. Thanks guys

I use OEM only in mine (NGK or Denso).

 

NGK Iridiums work well for me. BRK5EIX-11 on the 3.4 V6

 

Dont get the bosch plus four plugs.I found out the hard way.The ignition dosent have enough juice to fire the four electrodes.You wind up with four weak sparks instead of one strong one. Mine has the dual plugs installed at the factory.Just one strange thing.Mine has one part numbered plug on one side and the 3 on the other are different numbered.Go figure.The only thing I can figure out is its a 3.4 engine. It has 4 coils on the right side that fire all 6 plugs but the coils are right on top of the right side! So the electricity has to flow from the right all the way thru the wire to the othere side.So maybe its a hotter plug.Just a guess .Has to be some reason for it?

i can pull up my spark plug thread but just a reminder: check (eyeball is fine) the gap on the spark plug. if i had done that, i wouldn't have spent an hour or two trying to figure out which plug was jacked after i had installed all 6.

Cool thanks guys. I'm hoping I might get a little better fuel economy after this and putting in an amsoil. I was getting about 19MPG until this winter, now I'm only getting 17. So these are two more steps in the right direction I hope.

yeah, i was trying to do the same. i changed out my plugs, spark plug wires, cleaned out my throttle body, changed out my PCV, and aired up my tires a little bit. i am getting an average of 0.5 to 1.0 mpg *more* than before. good, but not up to my previous mpg.

the biggest change i did was to not drive fast.

Oh so you aren't supposed to put the skinny pedal all the way to the floor.

 

I have a wear mark in my carpet just under the skinny pedal. Any idea's?

 

Yeah, replace the carpet to improve your mileage.

 

I think you are subconsciously trying to do the Fred Flintstone to pick up speed. Once you through the carpet you just need to punch through the sheet metal.
