Spare WHEEL Size

Anyone know the measurements of the spare? I've had a couple flat tires recently (time for new tires, which is one reason I'm getting on this now), and I notice when I put on the spare, it looks way better than the other tires. It looks a little taller and fills out the wheel well better. The spare and my other tires are all 30 x 9.50. My truck's a 98, so 15" wheels. Only thing I can figure is it's the width of the wheel that's causing the tire to look so much better. My spare isn't the same tire as my other tires, but it is the same size.

So I'd like to order some cheap black steelies when I get my new tires. It would be cool to get them in a size closer to the spare than to the alloy wheels on the truck. Any advice? I looked at the spare and didn't see any numbers stamped into it the way the alloy rims have.

I also found these, which look like my spare tire. It's back up under the bed so I'm not positive but it looks right. Not sure I'm willing to pay $70 a piece for them, but I do wonder if I can find the measurements...

Maybe more importantly, does anyone know if the the spare wheel is a good, strong wheel? Or or are they just a cheap wheel only meant to get you to the shop? I found cheaper, OEM spares on ebay that are a decent price.

The spare that was under my 4Runner was a stock split-3 aluminum rim. The steel wheel you posted in that link looks to be a decent stockish, steel rim. Generally the wheel isn't the limiting factor with temporary donut tires, it's the rubber tire itself. Narrower than stock, means less rubber and air to compensate for the heat and stresses of driving forces. That's also why you shouldn't drive on a donut faster than 50 mph.

Hmm. Thanks.

What I found is that most likely my spare is the same as the link I posted, meaning 15x6. My alloys are 15x7. Probably with my 30 x 9.50s, the 6 looks better, to me anyway. Taller. With the 15x7s, they have a bit of that over-spread look some people like with their wide tires. I prefer the pizza cutters.

i wouldn’t think 15x6 would be too narrow for 30x9.50s, would it?

What im running into with aftermarket wheels is they’re all 15x7 or 8. I won’t be finding them in 6, which is apparently the look I like.

Thanks! Ah, I forgot how much fun this stuff is. I’ve just been driving my truck for a few years now without worrying about much. Love these early Tacos, even though they aren’t quite as cool as the first gens.

That thread reminds me. My door tag says 225 75 15. But I have a TRD and my truck came with 31s. But my my speedo was correct. But especially in first, it lugged a bit. Changed to 30s and it feels like it “should”, now. But my speedo is off. Whatever, I guess. I may see if Toyota has any input on whether those spares are thinner metal or inferior in any way. If not, I’m going with those.

The parts guy at Toyota thought there wasn't any reason I couldn't use the spare as a "real" tire. He said other than looking generic, it should be good and a full strength tire. I've good luck with the dealership parts department at this particular shop so I guess I trust him as much as anyone.
