spare tire removal help
Ok. I've got this '86 4Runner with the spare mounted underneath and I'm having a heckuva time trying to remove it.
I've been applying liquid wrench for the past few days and have stripped the Toyota rod using force to unscrew it.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this unstuck and out?
Thanks,
Warren

Before you cut it... look underneth, and see if you have a gearbox to the left try disconnecting the rod going to that gearbox and see if you can let the "tire winch" down that way... I cut mine only to find that the winch was fine and the gear box was frozen.. So I orderded a new winch... and then the gearbox! (Yep, they are not cheap nor come togather!!)

I used some spray I picked up at Walmart, I've seen at other stores too. Don't remember the name, but the can has a yellow top, white label with black & red writing. Kinda looks like a newspaper article.
Smell is really, really strong so be aware of that. I sprayed it and let it sit for about 10 min, then I was able to loosen the mechanism. Now I spray the mechanism once a year with oil and cycle it to keep it from seizing again.
Good luck...

I used a liberal coatinng of WD-40, soaked, coated, soaked. Then jam the cranking rod in the socket and smack it with a hammer several times. Mine was frozen solid until I did this, once I started it moving and kept reapplying it freed up and worked fine from then on. Took about 30 min.
