Soundproofing Anyone?(pictures)
For anyone that has been considering a full soundproofing, here are some pictures of what I did. I used 100 squarre feet of B-Quite from ebay ($125 shiped) and about the same amount of carpet pading. This project took me like 50 hours. Was it worth it? Yea, kinda. The reduction in road nois is minimal but the clearity and bass of my sound system increaced dramitically.

Yea, I think it might help quite a bit but it would be soooo much work. I thought about doing the firewall but I took a look under the dash and said "screw that". Most of the road noise comes in from the back so I focused on that.

bike,
great job.
i did the same but with mcmaster HTM for the horizontal surfaces and peel & seal on the vertical surfaces. Oh, carpet padding on the horizontal surfaces too. http://www.4runners.org/articles/sound
the sound deadening seemed to do it for me. my rear passengers say that its damn quiet back there. however, the wind and engine noise was magnified b/c of the lack of road noise!
i know what you're saying about tearing apart the dash. i do think that if you sound deadened both sides of the firewall, the cabin would be a lot quieter.

For the doors, did you just cover the holes with that material or did you put something to cover the holes first and then lay the material on? Looks good though... I did mine last summer with Dynamat Extreme, didn't use that carpet padding though. Where you get that padding?

McMaster also makes a semi-liquid vibration damping compound. 5 gallon bucket for like 60 bones. Totally worth it. For those w/ a black runner, the High Temp mastic that they sell might not stick as well on vertical surfaces.
It's like paint that hardens to strengthen metal panels. Combine that with some mastic and foam padding...mmm. quiet runner, loud music.
great job!

One thing I did on my old jeep that made a HUGE difference(at least with the hard top on) was spray some rubberized undercoating over the whole underside of the body. It made an enourmous difference. I plan to do my Taco this coming week while I'm off work.

hey josh-
I have been wanting to do the undercarriage spray. Is there any trick, ie, any areas under the car that shouldn't get sprayed or do you go full out?
I have been wanting to do that combined with the with the mastic or dynamat for a great quiet cabin.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!
I'd personally recommend Second Skin products. Much cheaper than comparable stuff on the market:

Bike4miles got 100 Sq. Ft. for $125.
I have 180 Sq. Ft. of Second Skin and I paid $500.
So even if that stuff Miles got were thinner or something, you can get 400 Sq. Ft. of that for the same price.
Plus his stuff looks like it went down a lot better in the rear cargo area in the grooves.
80 Of the Damplfier pro, and 100 Sq. Ft. of the regular Damplfier.

I used b-quiet and did my entire car as well. My doors weight a ton now and my back lift gate won't quite raise by itself...ive sent my liftgate struts to www.strutwise.com for some strength. The b-quiet made a helluva difference.

I looked into doing this, but the communication was slow.

Anthony, Second Skin proprietor, is easy to work with. Give him a call and he'll likely do everything he can to earn your business. I have bought a boat-load of Damplifier from him and some of the other products and he's always willing to discuss price and value. In particular, the spray on stuff he has might be the best valuing going, and is exactly what the OP was looking for. It might be worth a call to discuss, based on my experience with Second Skin.
