Hey Joey,

How did you wire the horns so that your stocks still worked?

EDIT: Just found your write-up.

This past weekend I hooked up my new air horns. I am very happy with them! I feel like I am driving around with a missle launcher attached to the roof!

One thing you can do if you get air horns is leave one of the dual stock horns hooked up. There are 2 reasons for doing this:

1. It's a back-up horn in case the air horns fail (yeah its really wussy, but better than nothin')

2. Since there is an ever so slight lag time when the compressor is activated to the air horns, it allows for a not-so-lethal "the light is green get moving" beep.

Air horns rule. Mine were $29 with tax.

Shoot, no Harbor Freight close by, looks like its Kragen or Pep Boys for me. HF online kills you with shipping and handling, plus sales tax.

Hey Tom,

I can check if there's a HF around me and get those for you to include in the mail with the reloading book...

Just don't know if there are any around me though...

I left my stock ones on too and actually extended the horn tubing by another 3 feet but I get erratic results. Sometimes it's delayed enough to get out just a small stock honk, other times it seems that the horn is somehow "primed" and ready to go at the slightest bump

doesn't really matter though... it's of very small consequence.

Good news Tom!
There's a HF in Escondido, a bit north of me, that has them in stock! I'm going up to Irvine to visit my girlfriend today so stopping by on the way up will be NO problem!

I'll let you know how much it all comes out to with shipping when I get it all figured out

Should I be picking up anymore while I'm there? Any takers? You'll have to reply quickly as I won't be here all day

I replaced my stock horns with a pair from an Opel Omega. They look kinda like the freeway balsters. They are LOUD. And they are wired up to the stock wires, I can put it back to stock in a few minutes.

Install success!

I bought the same Fiamm horns and installed them. WOW! Just remember to put the jumper on both horns to ground it ( I didn't the first time). Sweet sound!

Bob,
I think you have some Harbor Freights pretty close to you. There is one for sure (it is the Main HQ) in Camarillo, before you get to the outlets, andis on the right side of the Fwy.

Fiamm, where have you been all my (4Runner) life!?!?

Guys,

Thanks to Skyrat for the inspiration and Peter for actually purchasing and sending them to me.

Since I had Hella Supertones installed, hooking these up took about 5 minutes. The only additional thing I added to the install were washers and lock washers to keep the nuts down on the horns themselves.

The horns are marginally louder than my Hellas but the sound is 10 times better than the Hellas---they sound more "domestic" and more "ball-sy". The Hellas, while loud, had a fancy "European" tone to it. They'll be going into my wife's Camry.

Also, these Fiamms are significantly cheaper than the Hellas. Another reason to get these horns.

Bob
