My side mirror (passenger side) got broken when I was backing out of a tight space and hit a cargo truck.

Will the side mirror from a 2000/2001 4Runner fit a 1996 4Runner? I read somewhere that the newer mirrors are a bit bigger. But it wasn't mentioned whether it's using the same stem. Has anyone with a '96-'98 successfully swapped their side mirrors with the newer & bigger one?

I have no idea. I just happened to glance at your profile and saw you had a turbo timer. This cause me to take note and read the rest of it. Turbocharged diesel?! Wow, I envy you.

 

yup. 145 hp at 3600 rpm and 334 N-m at 2000 rpm.

 

Wow... been a while since physics. What do newton meters transfer to in ft/lbs?

 

I think the newer style mirrors will fit, I think the only difference is appearance and not the mounting. I could be wrong though, but I would assume they would fit.
