Spent most of the day on Saturday up in Phoenix getting this little beauty installed.

Overall, the bumper is great but it was a pain in the butt to install. We had to spread the brackets apart, grind the powered coat off the brackets on one side then grease them to get the bumper to slid into place.

A little side job after the bumper was installed: Stubbs HD-SKO sliders. Ended up coating the sliders with Dupli-Color truck bed liner. We'll see how it holds up.


I think the total install time for the bumper and sliders was around 6hrs. not including the 2hrs. it took for the power company to fix the powerline. Now to get the drivers side ball joints fixed and the let the bank account recover.

Looks awesome!! Same bumper I plan on purchasing this summer. Are the new end caps required for the install? Or can you just bolt the new brackets on?

 

I dont think its a purely bolt on job...

 

That is really nice. I have wanted to see one with the prerunner style bar installed on someones car. Those sliders are nice too, I like your choices.

Don't neglect those ball joints-member "Ric" recently had a failure which led to his vehicle being totalled out.

 

I've been following that on UY, that was a nice 4runner.


The drivers side upper ball joint is being changed out today. It was shredded, all the others were fine.

 

Bumper looks great, it fits the body of the 4runner a little tighter than my TJM-15 and looks more custom.

My only question is why are the winch bolt holes and openings off-centered to the drivers side? When I first noticed it I thought it was just the photo, so I checked the website and their photos confirmed what I saw in yours. Its an awesome bumper, but I can't figure out why in the world they would want to have the winch off-center??

i think the winch mounting is off-center so that it can accomodate different types of winches because some may have the motor or planetary housing on that side and wouldnt fit in the bumper if it was centered. just my guess though.

 

That's the same conclusion that we can to.

 

If you notice on any winch, if the spool is centered there is significant difference between sides. So vs. adding 4" to the center width and adding signicifant bulk and overhang to the bumper the winch is slightly off centered. The bumper is very tight to the vehicle and if you install a winch, you'll notice the winch fits very snug inside the bumper.

As for the trouble with the install (you may have done this but..) we always leave the brackets loose when fitting the bumper (and it is tight) so that we can gain any slot space to get it into place then tighten the brackets, then bumper after adjustment. I think it is in the instructions but I may have accidently omitted it in this bumpers instructions and be thinking of another...I'll have to double check.

Bad ass...haha i got a Shrockworks single hoop coming for my 99 SR5, shipping is takin hella long tho...does it come with those black brackets you have bolted to the end of the chassis rails??
