should i keep windsheild molding?

hey all

i got a quote from my local glass shop to replace my windshield and they quoted me a CRAP LOAD of money just for the chrome windshield molding that goes overthe actual sealant. they said i didnt really need it and that it is just for looks. is this true? and if not is there a cheaper alternative like a rubber molding? or something i can rig up myself?

thanks guys

btw what do u all think of herculiner bed liner?

What happened to your windshield that it needs replacing?
Crack in it?
Your insurance company should cover that without use of the deductable if it was cracked by a rock hitting it or something like that.
It's considered a safety issue with a chip or crack in it.
Check around with some of the windshield replacement specialists. They usually have good prices.

That molding shouldn't be over $30 or so. How much did they quote you? I get around $250 to $300 to replace them with the molding.

for the chrome mold it was 25 each for the corners
75 each for top and bottom and 50 each for sides

but then she said all it does is make the truck look good so before i go with it im asking if i should keep it on becuase i really and not goiing for a show quality rig here or is there an alternative?

2 things.. Toyota does have those mldgs in black (see my truck!) But a good glass shop can put a universal glue in mldg in it's place.. It will not be perfect, and there is not anything to connect the 2 "ends" but a bone yard walk may produce something off old chevys.. I had a glass shop do this to my Toyota once after they scratched my truck.. In hind sight. that one looked better. The Toyota ones like to kinda pop-up after they have been removed once or twice.

Have the shop put in a universal mldg.

Also, yes.. the Toyota ones are very $$$ but the insurance Co. may pick up the tab if needed, mine did!
