Shop Recommendations? (DC/MD area)
I just took delivery of a '99 4Runner (a Highlander, no diff lock unfortunately though) and the power steering needs a little TLC. I'm wondering if anyone can recommenda a good shop around Bethesda/Rockville/Silver Spring area, or somewhere in DC?

I understand with the differential lock taking that to a shop, but you might be better off doing the power steering yourself. I cant imagine that being too terribly hard. If you were in the va beach area I would try to help ya out. I dont know if you have the time to tackle this yourself, but this def is worth looking at to see what you would have to do for the power steering.

Ta - I'll keep that article in mind if I need to replace the pump. I don't know if the pump needs replacing though. The symptom is that the power steering feels very 'rubbery' at low RPM when the engine is cold; it definitely doesn't feel right. It could be how the 4Runner's steering normally is though, I'm not sure. That's why I was hoping to find someone who is familiar with these trucks.

Lakeforest Toyota in Gaithersburg on 355 (right hand side when going north) just after Lakeforest Mall. The service dept. is further up 355 right where the Golden Bull resturant is. My neighbor Ed is a service writter there, along with a friend that is a mech.
