Decisions... I am getting OME rear coils in the next couple of weeks.

Looking at shocks to get. (all 4)
Old Man Emu Mediums (not the heavey duty)
Blistiens

Which one to get? I do a lot of highway traveling some off-road (down fire roads and back county trails)

 

If you're getting the OME Coils, you should stick with the OME Shocks.

bilsteins were worth in my rig. i do alot of snow driving in t he winter and off road the bilsteins are just incredible. buy 'em at autozone if you do, they have good prices and you get the lifetime deal for them there.

 

I had sensa tracks on my truck......VERY nice ride! Switched to Bilsteins....ride stiffened up and not to harsh.....For the trailing I do.....Perfect!

 

Go with OME. I just swapped out my Bilstein for them. Bilsteins have a soft boot and because of this, I was not able to uninstall the shocks without damaging them. OME's seemed to be built better. The ride is good too, not as harsh as the high pressured billies.

 

If you are primarily on road, I would get the bils. If you do a bit of wheeling get the OMEs. I had the HD coils on the bils and my truck rode like it was on rails in the corners. It was on the harsher side, but i'm young and don't mind it. Espcially when you get such good handling (if you saw the road I drive to work you'd understand). Plus, I was completely confident. I think of it as a safety thing. Yeah, you don't get as much flex out of them or bla bla bla, but when avoiding an accident... i'd rather be on the bils.

Can't you just use a allen key to keep the "soft boot" from rotating while you losen the nut with an open end wrench. Just the reverse of installation?

 

I'm running the medium OME shocks with Heavy Duty rear OME coils.
I think it's an awesome combo.

 

There is no room to work with the allen wrench and and it will strip with the amount of torque needed to muscle that nut thru those corroded threads. PB blaster helped, but not enough. Believe me, I tried. The amount of time I was spending on trying to not damaged the shaft of the Bilsteins was not worth the money I would get for selling them. This might only be a Northeast corrosion issue though. Using a strap wrench on the OME metal boot keeps the shaft from turning and it makes things soooo much easier.

 

Bilsteins are stiffer shocks.... If you like the plush ride and better ride offroad i'd go OME....I dont care what everyone says but bilsteins do have harsh onroad ride.

 

which ones have more of a choice for length??? im puttin ball joint spacers in the front and cruiser coils in the back, right now for the front im looking at rancho, just because i can look and see what the extended and copressed length of each shock they carry is.
