If it is shipped via post there won't be any charges or at least minimal. I wasn't charged for my spring via reg post. However UPS & fedex do charge a Duty fee from $50 on up i have heard. Add another week to the time that they say in the states.

Yeah, get them to use US Postal Service if possible, that way you pay GST + $5 to Canada Post. If the parts are marked 'Warranty Return' you won't even have to pay GST,

FedEx and UPS charge $30-50 customs clearance charges + GST. They even ding you for GST on the clearance charges

As for time I've had anything from 10 days to 4 weeks. Average around 2 weeks.

not too sure how far you are from a border crossing, but see if there is a border shop on the yankee side that you can ship stuff to. pick it up and just pay the tax at the canuck side. i always get stuff sent to the border at pigeon river (45min drive) since its there in 3 days and usually free shipping to the lower 48 states. half the time they dont even bother charging you the tax if you declare the merchandise.

Have you talked to Ted? (engnbldr) He's a standup guy, and he'll let you know exactly what it will cost.

UPS cost me about $30US + $35cnd customs I think and I got the parts in about a week or less (about 7 days including weekends), but that is only because I forgot to ask for US Mail. Always use USPS when getting something shipped from the states, otherwise expect to pay at least $20 more for brokerage fees. USPS has generally been pretty fast for me when dealing with other companies. Generally, I find about 10 -12 days (including weekends again), I've had shipments from California come in a week and, like others said, they only charge $5+ GST. I've also found that many independent vendors will mark a lower price than the sale price for the value of the goods so you may pay less GST than you expect.

As far as engnbldr, all my experience with them has been nothing but top notch.

Thanks guys for all the input,

Skier where are you? and what did you have shipped?

I asked about USPS and Ted said for the weight he had to go to UPS. (fuill rebuild kit and cycl head)

I don't have an issue with the costs, it is more the time. The block will be ready in week and half, but it is my DD so I am in a rental until it is back up and running.

Yes brokerage charges are a bitch! But paying $200 for an extra weeks car rental will wsuck ass too.

*Morning!

We used to ship everything via USPS to Canada, but sadly, the mail system once it reaches the border is not the best. Since we get a lot of orders from there, my email box was getting full of "WHERE?" and mail is a PIA to trace.

Some items arrive in 5-7 days, and some were taking 30+, with a couple of spectacular ones that went over 50 days that I actually replaced, the 2nd shipment arriving first.

So under 4 pounds we will letter post, that means no insurance and no track or trace and if they lose it they are "sorry.". Items under $100 we will Parcel post air, and insure. Postal got nasty about undervalue by very much and even returned a couple of shipments.

I won't falsify a customs form either, they call that a crime now and they are dead serious about it.

The surprise is that UPS is cheaper than Postal air, (we are high volume so we get discounts that we pass on) especially since to find anything using postal we have to delivery confirm, insure, add track, all at high fees and forms to fill out.

UPS I touch a button and it prints, arriving in around 4-5 days to almost anywhere. I can track online to see who ran over it with a forklift, too. The only thing we can get Postal to track well is Expre$$...UPS does charge a fee to transfer from the US system to the Canada system, but for higher value items, it's worth it. Note that "antique auto" labels are very helpful with costs, so everything goes that way for these "old" Toyotas...bring the clerk's attention to that on the label, there should be little or no duties for your..*ahem..1975 Toyota.

I always try to ship the best and lowest cost possible, but you can see quickly that if I send the wife to the Post Office with 3 master kits and a couple of crank kits in the back of her Monte Carlo, it's tough on my dinners around here...*LOL**...*EB
