Shipping to a commercial address?

I'm planning on getting a TJM bumper very soon so of course I'm shopping. The shipping is over $100 to be shipped to my door and only $75 dollars to a commercial address.

I'm a little confused on what exactly qualifies as a commercial address? Shouldn't I have to contact that address before a huge random box just shows up at their warehouse. If anyone has any info on this it would greatly appreciated.

It is my understanding that to have a commercial address, you have to have a certain commercial liscensing number. I had a friend who had one and was able to get electronic stuff for autos at reduced prices.

I work at Boater's World and we get some pretty big stuff like kayaks, dock boxes, motors, etc... Seems like this would work if I ask my boss for that commercial license number.

A business. I think you will just have to give them the address and get permission from your boss. The shipping company will know.

This is just another way that the shipping companies can make more money.

It you give them a commercial address, Chances are that its already on a drivers route. They wont need to take it to a residence where the person is probably at work, thus causing them to take the item back to their terminal.

Then the truck delivering whatever it is to a residential address would be like WTF. I don't know what would happen in that case though.

Whenever I ship something large I do it at work in the warehouse.

Most of the time it is cheaper to have something shipped to a commercial address for
1. Already on the trucking co. route (already been said)
2. Most large items going to a home address have to have a truck that has a lift gate on it to get it to the ground. Where a commercial address generally has a truck dock that the piece can be unloaded onto.

That is exactly what it is, for example with UPS, the business pays a weekly fee for the driver to stop by daily for pickups, whether there is a delivery or not. And they assess a service charge for redisential deliveries. And if you check commercial for the lower rate and it ends up at a residential address, they bill your UPS account for the difference.

Likely it is a FedEx shipment though, FedEx Ground is uspally less expensive and handles heavier boxes than FedEx Home Delivery (70 lb. max). One option is to have it delivered to your work address, contact the receiving dept. to see if that is possible and to work out the details.

Thanks guys.

Every week we get an 18 wheeler full of boxes to stock the store. Also, the Fed-Ex man and UPS man stops by all the time picking up things and dropping things off, so this has to work. Thanks for the help. I'll cross my fingers.
