Yup. So i was trying to tighten the a/c belt because it has been squealing like crazy the last couple weeks. Luckily it hasn't been too here so i haven't had to use the a/c. I'm not sure if I over tightened the bolt or if it was just old.. but the belt was still squealing right before i went to adjust it for the last time before the bolt sheered.
Anyho.. where can i get a new bolt for this? As is it okay to drive if i took the tensioner pulley off but left the belt on? By the way this is on my 98 4runner 5VZ.

the dealership has access to all bolts or can get one soon oprivey but the right one is key! I am missing a washer behind the pulley tenshioner i ordered it for 2 bucks! LoL

 

I'm dealing with the same thing right now on my 2.7.
You'll be lucky if the threads in that little adjuster block are still good.
The threads on mine got stretched and the bolt snapped off as I was tightening it. Basically making the little block useless.

You can't order that little block or that exact bolt separate. You'll be forced to buy the whole pulley and bracket which will be close to $150.

I'd take the belt off of the engine. You don't want it to get caught in the fan and destroy it, the hood, or anything else under the hood.

 

Uh, I think you can get just the bolt and the block. The bolt has it's own PN. The block doesn't, but it seems you should be able to get it. Or look for someone parting out and engine and pick it up from them (or a salvage yard). I just picked up a whole AC bracket for practically nothing that included this adjustment stuff.

BTW, toyota of Dallas has the pulley assembly with block for $40.

Luckily the block is still in good condition and what is left of the old bolt screws through just fine (just the head of the bolt broke off). I happened to stop by ACE today and found a bolt with the exact thread pitch and length for $2. So i bought it and screwed that sucker in, tightened the pulley down, and fired her up and the belt didn't squeal at all.
Gotta love cheap fixes!!
