Shackle recievers for sale on e-bay

Just wanted everyone to know they are on sale on e-bay. The ones that go into a reciever. I got mine for 36.49 shipped. He has many more on there. Just do a search for shackle. I had to bid on it. I bid 24.99 and was the winning bidder. shipping was 11.50. Thats still cheaper than anywhere I have found on the net. The secret on bidding e-bay is to wait until the last 30 seconds of the auction. A bid any sooner will only drive the final cost up.

you know, if you have a receiver, you dont need to spend $30 on a gimmick, you can instert the tow strap into the hitch and put the hitch pin through the loop on the strap

There are some very useful reasons to carry a couple D-ring shackles. You can use them to connect a tree saver strap to a winch line or snatch block or connect a winch line extension to a strap. I found some nice ones at Ace hardware for about $10-12 if I remember right.

im not saying there is not legitimate reason to carry a d shackle, what i am saying is there is no reason to buy a $40 gimmick when a $5 hitch pin, needing one anyways will suffice....

however they do look cool sticking out the back of your truck

Thumbs up Hitch pin works, but be warned...

wvuviv30 is right. The purpose of the shackle receiver or "gimmick" is to ensure that your hitch pin is loaded in such a way as to create shear stress (actually double shear in this case) accross the diameter of the pin. This is how hitch pins are sized and what they are designed for. You can instert the tow strap into the hitch and put the hitch pin through the loop on the strap. I've done it when I pulled a car on dry pavement for 15', but this will lead to loading the hitch pin in such a way as to create a bending moment. A bending loading if sufficiently large, will cause your pin to bend perhaps to the point where you won't be able to remove it from your reciever or even worse, it could cause the strap to let got and hit someone or something during a recovery. Never a good thing. I think that the receiver shackle is a good design, but don't agree that they should be $37!
Just my $0.02 worth.

Cheers ,
P

Not to change the subject, but as far as ebay bidding goes I'd highly recommend auctionsniper.com. It allows you to set your lead time and then it will bid automatically up to your max bid. I usually set my lead time for 3 seconds and then just sit back and watch the magic.

You could just make your own shackle reciever for like 10 bucks. Just buy high grade hardwares though and it helps to know how to weld.
