I can hear where you are coming from. I tryed to pull 2 of my JetSki's out of a fairly steep driveway and my 99 3.4l v6 didnt have enough to get it out. Embarassingly(sp?) my freind got them out easily in his 1995 Ford Explorer with 160k miles on it. . .

did you use 4LO.... I have pulled 5K up super steep stuff in my 22RE...seems odd you would have a problem with a 3.4
