Security System Question

We just purchased a new 2002 4Runner. We added on a Audiovox Pursuit security system. The dealer wants to switch us to a Toyota RS3200Plus security system. Either will be installed for $500. Which should we get? Are we being ripped off?

What are the advantages of one over the other?

Thanks !!

TOTALLY RIPPED OFF!!!!!

There is no reason that an alarm should cost any where near $500. I manage a large appliance and electronics retailer and we handle car audio and alarms. You could get a great alarm with remote starter (if your Runner is automatic) for under $300 anywhere. Look for brands like DEI or Prestige. Go to any car audio store and talk to them about the security system. Forget about getting it from the dealer. They are just going to send you rig to whatever car audio dealer that they subcontract that stuff to, plus charge an extra $200 for the work. Eliminate the middle man.

Thanks Tomus

After I posted the question, we went out shopping at the car audio / alarm stores, and purchased a Prestige APS-800C for under $300, installed. It will be installed on Tuesday as they were booked solid until then.

Thanks again.

Let that be a lesson to everyone...

Good luck with your new truck Jeff. Welcome to the family of proud Toyota owners.

I just purchased a Viper 600ESP alarm this weekend for my new rig. I ended up getting it at Cicruit City for under $300 installed. The alarm works great now, but it took two trips back to CC in order for them to get it right.

It's hard to say where to get something installed. My only suggestion is to stick with somebody good once you find somebody. There were just a bunch of kids doing the work at Circuit City, and didn't know much more than I did unfortunately.

The alarm is nice, DEI makes great products!
