re: seafoam

Hey thanks Bamachem, I just did this in front of my work place, follwed the instructions right off the can, couldn't figure out where the blasted PCV was so put it in the brake booster line, worked fine, just poured slow, waited 10 minutes, white smoke, lots of white smoke. let it sit about 10 minutes did it again, not as much smoke. Put a full can in the tank and filled her up. we'll see what the mileage is, going on a road trip to the UP to deer hunt soon, thanks for all the great advice and help here. EDH

after reading the 17 page thread, and this one, i think ive figured out the seafoam might be giving me a bang for the buck. all the pictures ive looked at are red x's. if anyone could post one of the 3.4L with a big circle around which hose im supposed to pour down, thatd be great. im not too good under the hood. i just know all about the electronics and audio stuff. also, does it matter how full ur gas tank is when you put the seafoam in?

Here you go northfacer . Good luck with the seafoamin'. I know my engine doesn't have the S/C, but since people said the brake booster hose will work, these pictures should help you just fine.

Pic #1 = PCV Hose
Pic #2 = Brake Booster Hose

If that happens, just let the car be for five minutes and restart, and continue the process. Let it suck up about 1/3 of the can since it's a turbo then hydrolock it by leaving the tube until it sucks as much as it can and dies. Leave it for about 5-15 minute (the more you leave it in there, the more it softens up the built up carbon). I did my honda the same way and worked great!

[EDIT] Now that i think about it, you're burning carbon and I don't know if that's good for a turbo or not as it uses expelled gases to power the turbines. According to their website it's safe for all 2 and 4 cycle engines. If it was my car, would I do it....yup I would but i guess I wouldn't let it sit inside the engine too long after it hydrolocks.
I think you mean the engine just dies from an over rich condition (like giving it too much choke), not hydrolocks. Hydrolocking is when your engine ingests enough liquid to stop the pistons physically (usually major damage ensues). Just semantics but there is a very important distinction to make there.

yeah I guess that's a better explaination...the engine does pretty much choke, it's doesn't quite hydrolock. But everytime I explain how to use it, that's what I tell them, "hydrolock"...but you're right , you're not hydrolocking until you've stuffed enough liquid into the cylinders that the liquids can't quite compress and your engine dies, literally.

.... or explodes if you are reving high enough when you do it.

It's only funny when it doesn't happen to you.

fwiw... I ran Seafoam through my S/C'd truck last night/today. Very noticable change in how it runs. Smoother, less bog on the bottom, nice kick over all.

I ran 1/2 can into the brake booster line and put a full can in the tank. I let it sit overnight, and blew crap out the tail for a solid minute when I started it about 12 hours later.
