Safety Cancel Switch

Yet another silly question from me. What is the safety cancel switch for? The guy who had the truck before me apparently disabled it. Seeing as I have no owners manual for it I have no clue.

??? What year vehicle? Are you talking about the 'clutch start cancel' button to the left of the steering wheel. If so it just makes it so that the clutch doesnt have to be in the start the truck. The only other thing that comes directly to mind is if you have the e-locker, and he disable the 5 mph engage and/or the 4wd required safties to turn the locker on?? Anybody else?

Scratch the locker idea, people posted while i was typing.

I think you're referring to the "clutch start cancel" button. That button allows you to start the vehicle without pushing in the clutch when it is is neutral. Simply turn the key to accessories then hit the button put it in neutral then turn the key all the way, and it shoudl fire right up. Not sure if that's what you are talking about, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Wouldnt have a stock elocker in there and putting one in and wiring it up, you wouldnt have to touch that. Only thing I can think is maybe its just unplugged behind the switch. If it is hooked up then let me know and I can look at the FSM and tell you where to look for cut wiring or the like.

In neutral? What good does that do? That switch is for starting the truck in gear. If you are on a steep hill with the engine off, you can start up again smoothly without having to drop the clutch and floor the gas. It makes it so much easier to start uphill. No rolling backward, no bombing the clutch, no spinning the tires.

well who really cares about that though? We are lazy, and not pushing our left foot down to the floor is obviously so much better than tearing apart and rebuilding/replacing the starter. Oh wait..... now that i think about it... that seems a little backwards.

Maybe not, but getting moving forward again while rolling backward is hard on the clutch and rest of the driveline. Toyota has had this feature for many years, and if it was causing starters to die left and right, it probably would have been discontinued long ago.
