S-10 Chevy and Tacoma the same?

OK-I had a scary thought the other day when a S-10 4-door was parked beside me. When the guy cranked the truck it sounded EXACTLY like my wife's V6 Tacoma Double Cab. I remembered that Toyota and GM built cars together and wondered if Toyota and GM are building trucks together over there in Fremont California.

To make my fears bigger, my wife's stock 2002 Double Cab has a Delphi Battery. Isn't Delphi a GM company??

Next time you see a modern S-10 check out the sound and tell me I'm hallucinating.

No, the Chevy and Isuzu small pickups are the same. Tacoma doesn't have anything to do with Chevy.

That is what I knew at well. Gm and Toyota went together on the Vibe and the Matrix. I was at the carshow this last year and all the parts on the vibe were labeled with Denso and the radiator cap had Japanese on it.

a little known fact about chevy nowadays-- it appears that the large chevy trucks (silverados) electrical systems are no longer labeled delphi anymore-- in fact, they are labeled denso, just like all the toyotas, i wonder if gm is trying to phase out the american distributor delphi in their autos.....that would be great news for me, being an installer. I would love to have the electrical systems for GM cars not be piles of crap for once. Just think, if GM used the same suppliers as toyota---their cars might last longer and not be rolling half-engineered pukebags waiting to catch fire anymore!

On my '02 Sport the air box was stamped with a big 'GM' logo. Somehow a GM product found its way into my Toyota Japanese mainland built Runner.

My '99 has that same GM stamp... I was hoping that it DIDN'T stand for General Motors.

Delphi was once a division of GM, but they spun off and are now an independent company, so they could broaden their market. It is common practice in any manufacturing industry to use a part that has the 3 F's (form, fit function), already designed and tested by another company for you. This practice reduces cost since you don't have to do all of the R&D. And who cares is something like the battery or airbox has some american car makers logo, as long as they didn't build the engine, trans., chassis, etc... I can deal with a plastic box saying GM.

The nova(late 80's-early 90's) were the same as the corolla.

Chevy can't make their own cars anymore, the Duramax diesel is made by isuzu, some of their cars are joint with Toyota, and now Denso is making their electronics. No wonder why their quality is going up, they outsource everything now.
I still wouldn't buy a GM if my life depended on it. Its either Toyota, Honda, Nissan, or Ford--if I NEED an F250 or F350 powerstroke, their cars are crap with the exception of the Cobra Mustang.

A chevy s-10 and a tacoma are exactly the same except for the grills and the emblems. Unfortunently the Taco is not made to last or perform as well as the classy s-10, Oh yea the 4Runner is a four door chevy/geo tracker, i think

Having spent a few years owning and hanging out with both, this is not true, THANK GOD. But I sure wish my Taco had come with the GM 4.3 with the 4l60E in it. I do like the way my 01 Taco it put together better than my S-10.

I heard if you put a chevy motor in a Toy, you get a Chevota.
if you put a Toyota motor in a Chevolet, you get a Toilet. Not sure if this is true or not, but I like to repeat it.

Well . . . I'm still a bit conerned because our Taco doesn't seem to be a well put together as the 1993 extra cab we previously owned.

If that Chevy hadn't sounded so similar . . . .
