2000 4runner 4 cyclinder Automatic Transmission
72k miles.

I will be in idle, i push on the gas and it will rev up to 1500 to 2000 rpms then finally move. By then my tires will chirp. It just feels so wrong where my RPM's are moving to.

This happened right after I changed my oil. I used 5w-30 Mobil 1.
I think I should be using 10w-30 for my 70,000 miles?
Is this the problem? Or should I check my Transmission?

If I need to replace my transmission fluid... which one should I buy?

 

This certainly does not sound like an engine oil problem, rather an automatic transmission issue. Once it starts to go, is it "normal". Does reverse work ok?

As far as transmisison fluid, use whatever is in your user's manual. Check the fluid level first, add if low. If that doesn't take care of it, then flush/fill (have someone do it at a shop).

Sorry can't be more help, but mine is a 5-spd. Others will chime in.

Do you hear any binding? lift the rear and give it some gas have someone look and listen near tranny,driveshaft,diff,brakes.

 

Like uberhaun suggested..check your tranny fluid. Run it until hot, shift through all the gears, and check the fluid level with the engine running.

If it's low..DON'T drive it!

Also, since you were under there changing your oil, make sure the lines going to the radiator from the transmission are still intact and connected.

 

yea....you are out of trans fluid. Check the level before you do MAJOR damage to the trans!!

if its leaking fluid, you need to find and fix the leak
