I did a search for rough idle and sputtering and yielded a few threads- but noone mentioned the check engine light came on. So i have 285,xxx km's on the engine, its a 98 v6. its been running trouble free for a while but things are coming apart recently. Most recently, maybe a month and a half ago- it would sputter and idle rough on start up- hot or cold. I would hit the gas and it would smooth out and go away. Just yesterday the check engine light came on, noone mentioned any other this when they were talking about IAC cleaning or injectors or valves- could the symptoms indicate something else or is it pure crap luck the check engine light came on indicating a different issue?

also- since the check engine light came on- i have not noticed it sputter on start up...

Well what code are you getting.I am surprised the CEL did not light up with the first sputter.

I seem to be getting all the codes memorized because I seem to have a few different ones every week.

Till I parked the thing.

now curiously enough, the check engine light turned off and its stumbling on start up once again
