Hey, when I do get it back (should be towed to my place today or tomorrow, what do I do with the engine just to make sure there's no oil in the pistons? pull the plugs - what does that all involve?

thats one of my worst nightmares dude, but it really doesnt look that bad.

of course the mud is covering up what im assuming is a lot of damage. if you part it out, dibs on the wheels and roof rack!! but if i were you, i would be chopping the top tomorrow and back on the same trail by friday

Insurance companies usually total vehicles when the cost of repairs exceed approximately 70-80% of the value. I paid $17k for my low mileage 5-speed 4Runner just last year; I would probably print-out some comparable trucks from autotrader and show its street value. $7K in damages is only about 50% of the street value of that truck. Then you'll have your 4Runner back with fresh paint.

i have a 99 blew my engine at 80K+ miles. costed 12K+ to rebuild the engine. i was shock to hear that my insurance didn't claim it was salvaged so i'm a little surprised that your insurance claim it salvage with only 7k worth of damage. anyway, nice looking ride by the way.
