Roasted Ring Gear Carnage

So I completely destroyed my front ring gear on my '92 4Runner, and I was hoping to get some info on where I might get a cheap replacement.

It's a Toyota 7.5" IFS with a 4.300 gear ratio. I'm hoping to find a used- good condition ring and pinion for under $100. Any one have any leads?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Enjoy the pictures, they are a great example of what a ring gear shouldn't look like

I'm no pro but I don't think looking for a "cheap" replacement is the way to go about fixing it. Put money into it now while you have it out. If you go cheap, it is cheap, and it will fail again.

I would try some of the online shops that provide a complete 3rd with a core return. but beware, stay away from Randy's, they don't seem to know alot about Toyotas.

Sounds like a good story, how'd you break it?

Look in the for sale sections of yotatech, 4x4wire and pirate. There's bound to be somebody selling a third member.

Son it is your lucky day! I think I have one in my backyard. It is even from a V6 '92 p/u. I'll check my door label, but last time i checked it was a 4.30. I'm too lazy to pull it all apart, but I could put it in a bucket and send it to you. You can do the work at your house. If it works great! If not I can shoot your money back to you. I have the whole diff with inner axles before the cv's. That would save you setup too! It's up to you man! Let me know!

TDiddy knows me since we are in the same club. Tom can vouch for my character so nothing to lose. $80 bucks plus you pay shipping....

Anyone know what one of those diffs weigh?

That sounds like a great deal, but where are you at? I'm guessing the whole diff weighs about 60 lbs or more, too heavy for anything less than freight, probably around $100-$150 depending on where you're at...

I have, however, found a complete diff out of a '97 Toyota T100 for $330. Low miles, 90 day warrantee, hard to say no! I'm hoping to talk the yard down to under $300, but I might buy your diff anyway depending on what shipping is... Then I can have extras lying around when I want to cannibalize parts Let me know where you're at and I could try getting an estimate.

In the mean time, I will being to take out my ring gear, and hang it on my trophy wall

Thanks guys

I don't know for sure but about 47 lbs. Shipping should only be about $50 or so. I am zip 94587 or 94536.

I'll check the thread later.....

Went up a steep (~55 deg) dirt hill in 4-Lo 2nd gear, crested the top and caught some air under the front end, on the landing a resounding *pop* signaled its demise. I had hoped it was a spider gear going out, but the ring gear got the brunt obviously.

I suspect I had weakened the ring gear before, and this finally finished it off. Such is the price of adventure.

I think I got confused at work on which thread we were on, but....

It is a non ADD diff...so either convert or rip it apart for the gears.

I'd like to buy that differential off of you, I can just disable my ADD if I need to later on, since I have manual hubs. I like the idea of having an extra axle lying around.

Let me know how much shipping is and let's get this ball moving! (PM me please)

Sorry about the late post, busy weekend...

I ripped my spiders out pulling atree down in reverse with my winch, to make it better I have it on film
The spiders decided to ruin the ring gear and pinion notice the metal chunk wedged in the ring gear

I have another diff in my garage for a 94 4Runner, it has 4.10 gears, you
want it, it is in NC
