RIP Blackness 1999-2011

So I got hit and flipped by a guy who ran a red light a few weeks ago. I came out of it relatively unscathed, however the same can't be said for my beloved 1999 4Runner Sport.

I only caught a glimpse of the car in my left-side peripheral vision before I got hit on the driver's side front corner, which quickly flipped me onto my roof and actually sent me sliding on my roof about 20 or 30 feet perpendicular to my original direction of travel.

I need to figure out how to post pics here, obviously. I'll be back.

That sucks dude! It's always tough to loose a vehicle you've come to love, esspecially when it wasn't even your fault.

Excellent question, but no, I didn't; I was pretty much in shock.

Thanks. I got a broken finger, likely caused when the steering wheel jerked after he hit the front wheel.

He was cited for running the red light and there were multiple witnesses who stuck around and gave their names and numbers to the police, so it's pretty much an open and shut case. He'll get his in the form of insurance premiums.

I am glad you made it out in tact relatively speaking; things could have been much worse for ya.

I hope your insurance company is good to you; will you get a chance to part the car out or will your insurance company take possession right away?

Given the Charlestowne flatbed, my cousin's wife was getting off the Wellington bridge to get onto 93, was clipped in the rear (Oldsmobile Aurora I think), and spun here so bad that it tore half the rear axle away from the frame of the car. She is an assistant dean at Tufts; she now walks to work daily, even in the snow.

I completely agree about being lucky all things considered. As far as insurance goes, I'm not really equipped to part out a car; I live in the city, have no place to keep it, etc. My insurance company made me a pretty fair offer and now they'll deal with collecting from the other driver's insurance.

What sucks the most is the money I put into it after purchase. Those Revos on there cost me $800 and they've still got about 50% tread left. I also put some electronics in there that I want to pull out, but with all the rain and the busted windows/windshield they might already have been destroyed.

I don't blame your cousin's wife; driving in this city can be a bitch.

Sorry to hear about the wreck man, glad you're okay (besides the finger) though! Hope the best works out with the insurance company and you get a new rig very soon to start building, keep us updated!

Wow, sad to see one go down in my town. Def glad you came out of it so well. Sucks that you won't be able to part it out, I've got a use for many of the parts.

Do you know what salvage yard it is going to? I would love to stop by and grab stuff off of it. I could grab stuff for others here too if needed.

I feel your pain, in 97 I bought 2 limited 4runners twins you could say (me and my girl).drove them as DD until we relocated back to Wilmington NC and within 3 weeks we were down to 1.It was a similar type hit but more to the rear of the passenger side, the force riped the rear axle off the truck and then continued to place some nifty groves in the road with the frame. It was a toatle loss and I felt like tearing the mans head off(yapping on his cellphone still even as I showed up) needless to say he didnt make it to work and was arrested on the spot charged with neglegent driving ,running a red light, causeing a accident with bodily harm.My girl spent 2 weeks in the hospitial with broken leg, ribs, concussion, and alot of brusing.
Im sure you can still strip the electronics even if they did get wet just let the mair out real good while your hunting a new rig.We salvaged the audio from ours after alot of wet weather and all but the subs(box and speakers were thrown out of the rear and died instantly) made it ok.Sorry to hear but like the others said your ok and really thats all that matters.
