Is it my reverse sensor or are my reverse lights just weak? Oh yeah I just recently rear ended someone. Does anyone know a good place where I can purchase a new front bumper for a decent price? oh yeah and umm front grill?

I thought it was my reverse switch. Did you change the backup lights??

I really thought that both of them wouldn't be burned out at the same time -- and when I pulled them, just one was burned out. But when I replaced them both, they both started to work. Go figure.

If you already did, then it might be the switch but I'll wager it isn't.

i'm having a similar problem with 1991 4Runner and my reverse lights don't turn on when I put the car in reverse. I have checked the fuses, checked the bulbs and all is fine. I also checked the reverse light switch and couldn't see anything there apart from the grease and dirt. so i cleaned it and re-connected the cables but still no luck.

any Ideas ?

 

Try jumpering the reverse light connector (and see if the lights turn on) and/or test the reverse light switch for continuity in reverse.

 

i don't know what you mean by "jumpering the reverse light connector " ???

the other thing is, i'm not sure if it was the reverse light switch i cleaned. I guess the question is where do i find the reverse light switch on a 91 4Runner SR5 Limited (manual gearbox) ?

Um, like the connector has two terminals inside, open = no lights, closed = backup lights, so make a high tech jumper wire to simulate the reverse light switch operating, something like this:



Not sure on that transmission, probably on the passenger side since it does not show up in this photo:



Likely somewhere close to the shifter/shift rails and will have wires and a connector.
