I was checking ebay the other day and saw a geo metro with the highest bid of $8,000! With 150k miles on the original motor!! and there were 20 bids on it!!

I knew i should have got that metro that one guy just wanted to get out of his yard 2 years ago!!! lol

In most cases most big SUVs get 12-14 in the city and about 20 on the highway which really is still slightly more efficient for the size then my 3rd gen for the MPGs I get. (17/21) Even my mom's neighbor in his H2 gets 12city/19 highway.

Plus you do have alot of people driving gas guzzling sports cars which are even less efficient than the SUVs for their size. If people can afford the gas then they'll be driving. If I had a few mil in the bank I probably embrace more motorsports but I'd still be energy concious but it wouldn't stop me from racing or driving what i wanted. It's the country as a whole's thirst for fuel that will keep prices up.

Not if they drive like 99% of the typical Yukon/Denali/Escalade/H2 drivers do. Which means quick take-offs and average highway speeds of 75MPH. They'd be lucky to see 14MPG on the highway, if that. Around town, they are in the single digits most of the time. Also, note that the 20MPG on the highway is with 4 of the cylinders off and going 55-60MPH. Little more gas, and the 4-cylinders wake up and your MPG goes downhill fast. I even have a hard time believing that the H2 could get 19MPG. None of my friends have gotten that, but they aren't the most conservative drivers, either. Is he going by the OBC or hand calculated figures?

The EPA-MPG figures for most American autos are way too generous, anyway. My father's 2500HD gets 13MPG on the average, and that's with 70% highway driving. My old Jeep Grand Cherokee got no more than 16MPG with 80-90% highway driving, and that was with me doing 65-70MPH. Going the exact same route with my Tacoma (and 4Runners), I am at 21-22MPG. 23MPG, if I set the cruise at 65.
