What idiot steals a spare tire?

Ever think about a swing out tire gate? Might be a more expensive route, but it'll look good.

watch ebay for one of these

or get it from the dealer, or a junk yard. it looks as if it just bolts on to the rear crossmember.

$700 is ridiculous.

Funny this thread comes up now, I just bought one of the chain style mounts off of ebay (for $13!) to replace the one on my 84 because i had to cut one of the links to get my tire off after the rust demon deemed fit to make the original one stop working. Just get the replacement mount and bolt it on yourself, youll save a LOT of money.

Tell the dealer to take that $700 quote and shove it. Look for the guy that has a different-looking spare tire and kindly replace it with a cinder block.

If you know someone who's good at welding, they could probably fab you something much more effective to mount your spare and cost less dinero.
