Replacement Steering racks

Where are people getting steering racks? I think 700 bucks for a new toyota rack is a little outrageous.. I vaguely remember a discussion somewhere about remanufactured complete racks for 200 (after core) with lifetime warranties.. or maybe that was just a really good dream.. I looked on partstrain.com and they carry a few different brands of remanufactured racks. A1 Cardone, CVU and Maval. CVU is the cheapest at 271$ + core with a 70,000 mile warranty. The A1 Cardone rack is the most expensive at 450$ or so.

Are you sure you need one? Could just be the bushings...

Im not sure, but I believe I got the CVU remanned rack for my 02. When I ordered that, I also ordered the poly bushing kit and installed it all in a few hours. That was about 10k miles ago, and it seems to be running fine so far... it seems to be around the same price I paid...

I would love to SAS but I don't have the funds.. need a new computer ... but back on the topic.

Yes I am positive its not the bushings. I have the poly steering rack bushings from wheeler's installed as well as poly sway bar bushings. i have had it all inspected, everything is properly torqued down. I am getting pretty bad bumpsteer (not dangerous, just annoying) and irritating clunking/clicking noises from the front when going over uneven surfaces and turning. The steering on our 3rd gens is pretty simple.. its either your rack ends (tie rods, inner or outer) which i have replaced already, worn steering rack bushings, or you've got a bad rack which can be rebuilt or replaced. I have done everything but replace/rebuild my rack and I'm not going to rebuild it

Thanks for the feedback on the CVU reman'd rack Kyle. I think thats the one I'm going to go for and if it doesn't work, ill take them up on the warranty.

I will check on TTORA although I kind of want something with a warranty that has been remanufactured over something that has been used with no rebuild.

Definately post up some reviews afterwards. My 98 had BAD bumpsteer and my current 02 might start down the same path soon, too...
