Replacement key fob case for 1998 4runner

Both of my keyless entry fobs have broken where they attach to the keychain. These are the oval two-button style. The fobs still work fine, so I was looking for replacement plastic cases which are available for many other vehicles, or even a different style fob compatible with this vehicle. The only thing I see are used fobs which are just as beat up as mine.

The choice is the go to your dealer or buy from a dealer on line.

Then you could have some custom made I sure some one does it.

I have the same one for my 99 Tacoma. When it broke I drilled a hole in the case at the spot the plastic pin comes out and put a ring through it. Works great.

When I got my Jeep i had no Fobs, Pull-A-Part had buckets of them, just needed to get it programmed at dealer (may be a jeep thing), anyway, then covered the FOB and My VW fob with 3M-DiNOC

An odd thing has happened. I was not using the fob for awhile since it was not on the keychain. When I started using it again it needed to be held within 2ft of the dash inside the car to work. Outside the car it will not work. Both my fobs behave the same and both fob batteries measure close to new.

It seems like my keyless receiver in the car is failing. Ever run into this?
Would the receiver part be in the dash where the blinking light is, or under the seat where the controller is?

***update
After a couple of days, it started working normally (normal distance) again.

Im in the sam boat only today I lost my fob. I decided to just buy an aftermarket keyless entry system. Got it for $35 as opposed to the $90 the dealership wanted.

Are you saying you replaced both the keyless entry box and the fob for that price? Where/what did you buy?
