Removed Silencer on my '97
#1
Got all the parts I needed at Home Depot:
(2) 3/8" plastic tees
(3) PCV end caps
Total cost of mod was $5.24
Total time to do mod was 25 minutes
I like the extra HP and growl. It's not much louder than just the deckplate mod and I have to floor it to really hear it which I don't do very often because I'm always trying to get decent gas milage. I'm running with the deckplate also. Waiting to see what happens with my gas milage. I'm also going to try running with the deckplate installed to see if there is any difference (I have my elbow removed too). Dr. Z's tech writeup stated that he noticed more prep with the elbow removed than with the deckplate open.

Woo Hoo!
Way to go Wayne! Hope you like it.
To clarify about the DeckPlate vs Elbow thing:
I noticed the COMBINATION of the Silencer Removal with the Elbow Removal yielded more power than the Deckplate mod by itself with the Silencer in place, which is the common setup for the Deckplate mod.
The Deckplate/Silencer combo is by far more powerful than the Silencer/Elbow combo. I have not run my truck with both Elbow and Deckplate removed.
Good Luck Wayne and have fun!

Wayne --
After reviewing Dr. Z's silencer removal writeup, I' a bit confused regarding your parts list.
What takes the place of the silencer -- where's the 2.5" tube?
Would you mind posting a quick overview of your installation, or contacting me offlist?
Thanks.
