removal of factory flares

learned expensive lesson today - front mudflaps arrived (mailorder), and eyeballing them didn't seem to fit easily

came here and found wealth of info on flaps (or lack thereof) for 3G with factory flares

but the flaps do look like they may fit under the flare, except I can't figure out how to get the flare off to try it

there seems to be a plastic rivet-like thing on the bottom that's holding on to something, but afraid to just pry it out

any advice on how to get the flares off? or is that a waste of time and I should return them for Tacoma flaps per other threads?

thanks!

You can also get on the back side of each rivet and press the outer shell in with a small flathead. Once both sides have been pressed, the rivet will pull out, rendering them reusable.

The problems begin when you cant reach the backside of the rivet or they are destroyed from the above method.
