Smile Recall discussion /Frame Tacoma

As I have seen my share of these trucks before the recall.

I doubt very much any one would spend 15,000 plus building a truck could not notice a bad frame. This was just a discussion in theory and what the outcome would be.

I was asking some questions of my local dealer Service Manager as she is cute I will always find interesting things to ask her.

I was asking what the policy is regarding the Truck once it has been found to be defective.

My question was am I allowed to say i want my truck back I will fix the problem myself??

Once The vehicle in question has been found to be defective it is all over . As far as I can tell it is the dealers option to replace the frame or crush/buy the truck.

Another question was since they go by mileage and overall condition as to what the payment would be now to me the last thing I would do is body work so the body could very well look like it was in a war.

Now these numbers were pulled out of the air and have no real meaning but if I had started with the engine rebuilt from the oil pan to the hood with all the tricked out machine work etc.

Then the clutch and the rest of the drive train and the whole suspension

So when you add all that up in the end you can take a real big hit.

It was my understanding that if they didn't replace the frame under the warranty, and bought it back, that you were to get 150% of KBB value. I also thought that they were only buying back the 1995.5-2000's due to Toyota sub-contracting the frames of those years and that they were replacing the frames on the 2001-2004's because they had the 01-04 frames in stock. If you refuse to sell back or let them replace the frame, they will contact the DMV and have your vehicle listed as unsafe. If you take it and do the replacement yourself, I would think you could tow it back to Toyota and have them inspect the truck and remove the unsafe condition put on your truck. That would be my guess. I would only be worried about it if I had the 95.5-2000 though. Unless I am incorrectly informed on the specifics. ???
