Reasembly of power antenna?

I'm starting to learn some things being a begineer offroader.

You don't reverse over logs or rocks if you plan on keeping your mudflaps on the vechicle.

You don't drive through heavy brush with your power antenna up.

Has anybody taken apart a power antenna housing and re wound the "cord"? I ripped out the very top section of the antenna along with the cord. I inspected the cord and all the teeth are there, and in good shape, the bottom tapers nicely and does not look like it snaped off. It would seem like I could just open up the housing and wind it up manualy. Before I do should I know about anything?

i just replaced my power antenna, unscrew the top nut on the housing on the fender, and remove the hidden lower part of the antenna and inspect it for damage. if it is broken either order to buy it from the stealer. i takes less than two minutes to replace: turn on the radio, when the antenna is extending, pull the whole mast and teeth out. feed the new teeth into the antennas base and turn off the radio. allow the new antenna to draw completely into the base. screw the top cap/nut over top of the retracted antenna until snug. you are done. turn the radio on and make certain it extends completely then turn it off to check for proper retraction.
