Okay so I got fed up with not having my rear wiper and tore into it today. I am getting power to the motor so I thought the motor was burnt, I bought one form the wreckers and proceded to replace it. Still nothing. I think that maybe the window isn't going up all the way, and thus the wiper won't go on? could this be a possibility. Any help would be great.

 

sure could be a sensor issue... if the truck thinks the window isn't shut all the way the wiper won't go. Not really sure how to diagnose this though...

 

Well, does anyone know where the sensor is? and can it be bypassed?

 

i was going to say, step 1 is finding the sensor, step 2 is figuring out what triggers it, and step 3 is triggering it and trying the wiper.

 

I though maybe it would in the top of the rubber somewhere? because it would have to recognise the window as being up right? or could it be in the actual door itself, which to me doesn't make much sense because then how does it tell the window is up? Hmm.. At least my aftermarket rear bumper ends come tomorrow...after ordering them today

 

Hmm, can't tell you anything about the sensor, but I'd think it would be somewhere in the rubber molding. I replaced my tailgate which included installing the window and the only thing I saw was the wires for the defrost. I'll talk to one of my buddies hopefully tonight and maybe he'll know.

I'm looking for some aftermarket endcaps myself...where did you find a good deal on some?

As far as the end caps are concerned, I just went to the auto-recyclers and they have a company they deal through and they ordered me a set. Brand new, I paid about 80$ (CDN) per side. Which isn't bad considering I would have been paying more (about 120 per side) had I bought them online from an american company like I had planned to. I'll ask him who the company is that he deals with when I go to pick them up tomorrow and get back to you.

I think it's in the door, there is a small switch near the window motor and regulator. According to the manual that's the window limit switch. It should have red/blue and black/white wires. I guess the switch closes and opens depending on whether the window is all the way up or not.

Edit: I'm assuming from your avatar you have a 2nd gen, otherwise this may not apply.

 

I'll second the door. There is a position switch in there. Really just a microswitch. It could get rusted or corroded.

If you unclip the two white connectors on each side of the compartment it fools the sensors into letting the window opperate in any tailgate position. It may solve your problem too.

Check to see if the switch is still getting activated by the window, it may just need adjusted. Or you can just bypass it, take the wires off each side and connect them together. Then the wiper will operate whether the window is closed or not, assuming of course nothing else is wrong.

 

I have the same problem, rear window wiper doesn´t work and washer either. Do you know, are they both connected to this sensor?

How about window heater, the wire is cutted off (I can see it) but if I measure the voltage I can´t get nothing? The switch is okay, light works.

 

Well, my rear defrst doesn't work either. I know that has to be either a fuse or relay problem as the light doesn't even light up anymore. But thats a problem that can be delt with another day.

The rear wiper still doesn't work, I can't seem to find this "switch" that determines what position the window is in. I have had my wiring diagram out all day, and I though I found it and disconnected it, Put the tailgate up and nothing. I have tested it and there is power going to it, I know that much, theres power going to everything back there, this is getting to be rather irritating.

 

The wiper and the squirter are both connected to that switch.

You can bypass it, but that means you can turn on the squirters and wipers when the window is down or half way down. Not the greatest thing. Just be careful.

I would have someone engage and disengage the sensor while you try to turn on the wipers. This will tell you if it is working. If you're alone you can tape it open or closed to test it. If it works....adjust it.

If not replace it or bypass it.

 

But the problem I am having is locating the exact location of the sensor to figure this out. And its beginning to drive me nuts.
