rear sun deflector?

i know that this was talked about on other topics before as something used to keep dirt off your back windshield and to keep exhaust fumes from getting into your trunk, but i was wondering how much it cost to get one? my 4runner didn't have one on it and since i have a dirt driveway i was wanting to get one to help out some, and i think they look nice.

when i looked at one close it looked like it was only two screws holding it them on. would a toyota dealership be able to sell me one or install one of i got it from somewhere else cheaper?

it you dont have the holes you need to drill them. i have a friend who got a 2000 runner.. he took his off in favor of backup lights mounted with those holes... im sure hed sell it.. the blade and the mounts.. probly 40 bucks and shipping.. he gets back on the 9th from over seas illtell him about it.. PM me if you want it.. like i said he dont want it.. he was going to give it to me.. but i had one on my 2nd gen and took it off. i have mine still but im sure you want the 3rd gen.. he'll sell it for sure..

sloan, are you talking about the plastic piece that can go over top the rear window. Kind of like the wind deflectors of the 4 front windows? if so i have one off my old runner and I can't use it for the new one cause it has a spoiler type deal

i dont see why anyone would want to pay more for the exact same thing. but yeah thats it.. the factory blade is aluminum i believe. its for sure not plastic.. as someone was asking.. make sure the kit comes with the rubber gaskets that go between the mounts and the paint..

I've got an extra. Screws mounts everything to put it in. The trick is going to be putting it on. The factory one has threaded metal sleaves that are glued into holes drilled on the hatch. My replacement hatch didn't have them and so my body shop painted the hatch and put the spoiler on.

I was wanting $25 + shipping. Let me know if you want it. If you want pics let me know.

not a big deal.. just pull the liner on the inside down and use nuts and bolts.. with some huge washers on the back.. and i mean huge. itll help distribute the weight.. a piece of plate steel with two holes in it would be even better.. but for god sakes this guy wants 25 and shipping.. take it..

How much of a difference do these things really make in combating back window dirt accumulation, etc?

If they work well I'd think about getting one...

I don't know if it deflects the sun or keeps the back cleaner or whatever but the back looks soooo much better with one. That's why I had one put on.

yea thats the only real reason i want one is for looks. i want to "black" my 4runner out so it would help out the back some with one on. and if it does just happen to get dirt off the back windshield its a plus

When you put one on, measure it to make sure it is centered and leveled, and don't drill the hole too big for the hardware.

Sloan that is a good price for a new one from TRD of Dallas-however the wind deflector does not include the mounting hardware and stanchions-the black plastic pieces that lift it away from the liftgate

I have a template from Jacques-the superb parts guy of TRD Dallas for the placement of the threaded inserts into the rear liftgate. That is a separate Toyota part number-sorry no I do not know what it is.

I am hesitant myself to drill holes in my liftgate-so I have a shop lined up to do the work. If you need the template just send me a private message. It has been on my "to get done list" for almost a year now....

Yes it does help the wind to draft down the back window so that loose dirt is blown away and moisture will tend to dry itself out.

Anyone know if and how to remove the factory threaded sleaves from the hatch so I can include that can include them whenever I sell my spoiler?

Sorry for the hijack.
