RANT: 6" Deckplate is too big...
I went and got a Beckson Deckplate today. They didnt have a screw in one, so I settled for a snap in one (Itll be open 99.9% of hte time anyways). They didnt have a 4" or 5", so I settled for a 6" one. Stopped by Aubuchon Hardware for 6 Stainless Steel 1/4-20 Cap screws, Lock Nuts. Went to AutoZone for Sealant, and Flat Black Paint. Over to Lou's Custom Exhaust, and got a 2.5" exhaust pipe at 5.75" long, and had the ends expanded to 2.75".
Got home, rattle-canned the Pipe and Deckplate. After I sprayed the second coat, I realized I forgot a hose barb, and a piece of hose to replace the hose thats now connected to the Intake Silencer. No big deal, I have to wait to put these in anyways. I dont have a jigsaw to cut the airbox, and I have to wait for hte paint to dry.
After the second coat of paint is dry to the touch, I take the outter ring of hte Deckplate, and go see if it would fit. The concept of that slipped my mind earlier. Place it up against the airbox, which is still in the 4Runner. Damnit it's too big. The hole is small enough, but hte mounting flange is about 1" too big. Im going to have to mount this so that extra part is at the bottom, and cut the extra piece of that flange off. Damnit extra work I could've avoided.
Deckplate: $18
Pipe: $10
Rattle Can: $3
Sealant: $5
Screws/Nuts: $4
Still need the hose barb, and hose. Plus I gotta find someone with a Tap for said Hose Barb, and a Jigsaw..
And I expected this to be abut $20 total...

Yeah, I think if you do a search you'll find a number of comments about why NOT to use the 6" deckplate. Other than the extra mod work, enjoy the results!

You can also just remove the elbow and get the same results as a deck plate. That was reated by Gadget. I removed my elbow and then added a screen inside the box over the hole with silicone. Then I cut off the part of the elbow that extends in to the box short enough that I can snap it in and out when ever needed without unbolting the box. It really works great . I just leave the elbow laying beside the box along the wheel wheel. It can't fall out and it's always there ready to put in for dusty or off road days. When I snap the elbow back in you can't tell it was ever modified. Mike

I TOTALLY feel your pain!! This damn 7mge VAFM conversion for the 3vze was supposed to be a CHEAP mod....thus far ~130 has been spent not including the filter, cutting, welding, and grinding that I got for free...
