The Rack (w/pics) , take two

Ok, here goes again. This is the completed roof rack that will reside on the '95Runner. I am getting it Line-X'd next week and will post some more pics then. Let me know what you think, and would anyone be interested? I'll also post some pics of the one I made for my Taco. Enjoy.

Nice Rack! I cant wait to see it on the truck. I would truly like to see the Taco edition since thats what I drive now.

Yeah, I'll post the pictures with it on the truck when I get it back from Line-X. The good thing about the coating process is that you can walk in and out within an hour. As far as the Taco rack goes, I'll post some pictures to webshots by this afternoon.

I'm getting a scale to find out but guessing I'd say around 50lbs. I was looking for some beef to hold whatever I throw at it without worrying about the max limit. I had the hi-lift, a 31" tire, and myself in the rack while I was testing for mounting locations and it didn't budge. Those lightweight racks on the market didn't impress me, although much lighter.

The reason I ask is because I've a Wilderness rack and I'm not fond of their lame flooring kit. I've considered removing their flooring kit and having some expanded metal welded in but it seems like it would add a bunch of weight to the top of the vehicle.

What thickness was the expanded metal you used for your flooring?

The expanded metal I used was 1/8. Good idea with the Wilderness rack. There are plenty of sizes, just be careful to match closely so one metal doesn't shrink to the other. I feel that strength is more important in terms of extra weight but a weight comparison would be a killer idea.
