Quick Throttle Body Question
Ok....I'm cleaning my throttle body right now by spraying the cleaner into the TB for 10 seconds with the engine off, and then starting it and letting it run for a minute. Then I repeat the process untill the can is empty. (This is how the can of TB cleaner says to do it)
My question is, my engine sputters and cranks for a long time before firing, right after I spray the TB cleaner. Is this normal? I dont want to induce any extra strain on the engine along with the TB cleaner if it's not supposed to be taking it.

The real way to clean it is take off the intake, take brake cleaner in left hand, and an old toothbrush in the right. I doubt your 1999 is gunked up in the intake, you can clean it of course if you are just looking to occupy the evening.

Yes it's normal. After you spray the intake, the mixture going into the cylinders is very rich. Cranking it gets rid of some of the rich mixture. Essentially you flooded the engine a little but with TB cleaner rather than gas.

Using a toothbrush is very important to ensure the TB is clean.....just spraying it in there will miss some of the carbon deposits. I use one hand to hold the throttle plate open and the other hand to scrub with the toothbrush.

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah, I didn't use a toothbrush but it sounds like a good thing to do. I can't find an extra one around the house though....maybe I'll just borrow my sister's
