I have Dual exhaust comeing straight out the back of my runner... both pumpin out exhaust.. ill roll everything down and back out my driveway.. yes i can smell exhaust but once i get like half way down the street it goes away... i wouldnt be afraid.. sep if you can smell it while you have a child inside... thats the only reason id keep it up.

Yeah, I ride with it down all of the time in the summer, and I've never once smelled exhaust(I know CO is odoroless but it is mixed in with the exhaust which does smell) Although, that might explain why I am the way I am.....

LIVE LIFE!!!...you are not going to be harmed by gasses if your windows are open!!!!
You will have ample enough air movement to get any gases out of the vehicle. do you wear a resperator (spelling) when your walking through a crowded parking lot at walmart? maybe i have never exp traffic like you have and i used to live in california (san diego). what about people who own convertibles...what are they to do????

omg i have to stop looking at this thread!!! it is getting pretty crazy.
peacefrog, it is fine to roll your window down. UNLESS your in your garage, door down and rear window open with the truck running. let the windows down, smell the air, turn the radio up and enjoy the wind!
roger-out!

i always drive with the rear window open, but ive also got either side or sunroof cracked too. no exhaust smell or anything. id think its just as bad as sitting in traffic with your windows open...

Was an issue for me - not a health issue but what an annoying smell....Not enough Co to make you pass out b/c it is mixed with air - I think!!
- Moonroof open and back window down a little results in CO coming back in through the window - rear window all the way down only get a whiff once in a while. (I have even noticed it on the Thruway doing 80 when I had the moonroof open and the back window half-way - - - just because i hate AC but down want to drive in a wind tunnel either.)
- open side windows - even an inch or so and no smell - must be getting enough air through
My final assumption - when opening rear window, open moonroof and/or windows enough to compensate - so there is no vacuum effect!!
