Putting a diesel in my 82 from 81 diesel.

So I found a 81 diesel. Thinking that I have nothing better to do than take on yet another project, I wonder what the feasibility and usability of putting this diesel in. And in case anyone wonders what I am talking about, here is a pic.

Here is the link to the yota I am looking at. http://portland.craigslist.org/car/62739956.html

So, would it work?

to my knowledge, it should be a bolt-in swap. i know the 2L diesels used a W56 tranny but that's a 1L engine(2L appeared around '84 i think). from what i remember i think they used an adapter ring to mate to an L series tranny, as they have a non-removable bellhousing.

the 2L bolts directly to 22R motor mounts, so i think the 1L should be a similar affair

nah, i'm saying that it'll probably work the same, you wouldn't be getting much more power with the 2L than the 1L. i love diesels...i just think that the way prices are going around here, it's gonna be cheaper to drive something V8 powered, diesel is close to $3 a gallon!
