Pulling code for a check engine light
#1
Anyone in San Diego know a good place to get a check engine light code pulled?
I know I should invest in one but I'm trying to reserved my cash in case I really do have an O2 sensor problem. Knowing my luck, I'll get it fixed and something else will happen
Thanks!

I posted a few months ago and it came up recently in another thread.
I think Tom mentioned that they can't do it here in CA because of liability.
Anybody know of a place???

Its true - Autozones will not read a code in CA any longer. I should say they aren't SUPPOSED to, I guess its possible that you could sweet talk someone.
Wow, for $39 that's definitely worth a shot.

Unfortunately the nearest Harbor Freight is about 20 min. in some seedy neighborhood.
Waitasec... I'll just get it online and see if it's worth it.
Thanks for the info!

I just ordered the code reader - along with some other toys
I'll let you guys know the verdict once I have the code (if it works) and I'm able to travel a weeks worth without seeing another check engine light appear.

There's a hole-in-the-wall autoshop on Black Mtn Rd & Miramar a block away from the Autozone that will pull codes for free. I forget their name but I found them in the Pennysaver and they did mine for free (it was the first air/fuel ratio sensor). Its run by some really nice Vietnamese folks. If I can find their name I'll PM you, otherwise just check your Pennysaver!

Oh nice find!
I'd hate to go to a shop for a free reading and not have the service done there BUT if it turns out that I need to get the problem fixed on my own I think I'll head on over there, confirm the OBD readings and see what they suggest.
Good looking out
