Thanks for the info. I've checked out the URD sim. I think I'll get that if I have to replace the CATs b/c I can't afford the OEM CATs. Has anyone found a decent aftermarket CAT that is CA Emissions approved?

No, unfortunately every attempt I have seen to find a replacement for the OEM cats have failed. I have never seen anyone run dual high flow aftermarket cats as a replacement so if you wanted to try something, that's where I'd start. All the companies you find on the net selling aftermarket OEM replacements are complete junk.

I personally would try a little harder to get the URD O2 sim to work also.

Ordering the O2 SIM right now.

I'm curious to find why the CATs failed at such a young age - or at least I think it is young (115,000). The truck has been pampered it's whole life. Always maintained - almost obsessively by myself.

I have 2 questions for you (since those were on a transplanted 3.4L):
1) Were those used on a Cali spec'd 4runner setup (ie 99-00 cali spec or any 01-02 motor/ecu combo)?
2) Was it successful in preventing the P0420 code?

After changing my plugs today, which is - by the way - a fun 1 hour exercise on this truck, I was going through all of my maintenance/repair records for this truck. One thing I had forgot about was that I would add BG 44K to my tank for a couple of years - every 6 months or so. I haven't done it in about a year b/c the place I bought it from no longer sells it. I started wondering - is this stuff OK to use? Could it have contributed to the failure of my CATs?

By the way, my plugs looked fine. A little bit of wear but NO fuel or oil on them. They were NGK. I used Denso this time.

I just ordered my sensor. I am going to run a few cans of sea foam through may gas before I change it and spray the old one down with pb blaster. so it can soak for a week or so.
