Price my '99-Should I or Sell or not?
I have bought an '85 4Runner, which will become my wheeling rig, so I now have to make the decision to sell the '99 or not. I really don't want to, but there is very little reason to keep it. Of course I love it, have put a lot ot time into it. I sold a racecar years ago that was kind of the same situation-I hated that I did it, but at the time it was the best thing to do. I do need a vehicle like the '99 a few times a year, but maybe only for about 2500 to 3000 miles a year. It is not my daily driver and I think that I will be able to use my work truck as my personal vehicle to (I really already can, but just can't take it on vacation and far out of town). I have sold my popup camper and bought a well used motorhome that I doing some work on. The motorhome will be my primary '85 tow vehicle (will not be driving the '85 on the road), but it would also be nice to have something that would tow the '85 if I do not want to take the motorhome. Now, I know the '99 could tow the '85 on a trailer, but it would not be optimum since the '85 and a trailer is going to weigh around 6000 pounds.
So, here's all the specs, tell me what you think it is realistically worth. It is not for sale yet, and no I'm not parting it out, so no pm's wanting parts please. Thanks

Specs:
1999 SR5 4Runner V6 4wd
5 speed manual transmission
Leather
Sunroof
Power windows, locks, mirrors, keyless entry
Factory radio and cd player
Sport hood-Toyota hood with scoop
ARB Prado bumper-has winch now, but that will be going on the '85, so no winch
Frame ends were welded when Prado was installed-has 7 frame mounts per side
Trailcarnage skidplates with custom plate covering the bottom opening of the Prado bar-these are the prtotype plates, so they look a little different than others
285/75/16 BFG Mud Terrains-about 70% tread left
16x7" Tacoma wheels-have some trail scars
285/75/16 Mud King spare on perfect 16x7" Tacoma wheel
Currently has OME 882's and OME HD shocks up front, but I have the Tundra coils and shocks-just not installed yet
Inland trucks front upper a-arms, have stock a-arms too that would be included
Front swaybar disconnects
Trailcarnage 2x3" tubing sliders
Trailcarnage rear bumper-1 of a kind, is similar to brucets's bumper
Currently has OME 891's and 2" spacer in rear, but I have the FJ80 coils-just not installed yet
FJ80 shocks in rear
E-brake bracket
Sonoran steel panhard drop bar
Sonoran steel super flexy rear lower control arms
Sonoran steel rear bumpstops
E-locker
4.88 gears
Custom Raingler cargo net behind rear seat
Custom rear storage box with sliding drawers
Conferr roofrack with spare tire mount, bike mounts, and axe/shovel mount
Marlin clutch
Timing belt and water pump have been done
Superlift speedometer calibrator
Currently has a cb-but that would not be included-going in the motorhome
2 spare Toyota cv axles (not parts store cheapo's) with new boots and grease
Axle breathers have been extended
E-locker motor skid from Marlin
The 4.88 gears, Marlin clutch, timing belt, and water pump have less than 10,000 miles on them since install and all work perfectly.
It does have some scratches, but I think there is only one that can't be buffed out. The only dent I can think of is on the right front fender and is very small and hardly noticeable-near the bumper and headlight. Of course the gas tank skidplate is dented and so are the Trailcarnage skidplates. The only rust is on the skidplates and bottom portions of the sliders. This is just from scraping on rocks. It has always been an Alabama rig, so there is no rust on the frame or body. I am the second owner-bought it with 55k miles. The original owner was a doctor and used it to commute-he had everything down to rotating the tires done at the dealership.
The clutch, gears, timing belt, and water pump were all installed professionally and not by me. I have always run Mobil 1 sythetic in the engine, diff's, trans., and transfer case. I have also used Toyota filters. It gets 16 mpg on the interstate at 75 mph and will get between 17 and 18 mpg if you keep it under 70mph. This would probably be higher without the roofrack.
It has been wheeled, but not abused. It has never been in any deep mud.
Whew, that's all I can think of and that is one really long post. So, give me your thoughts on what it's worth.

As other threads like this have stated in the past, it's pretty difficult to get the money you put into the truck. It's a really nice setup and it's pretty apparent that you've taken time and effort to make it one of the nicer 3rd gens on the board.
Having said all this, I would look at the price of a stock '99 and add $.25 for every dollar you spent on mods. This should be your starting price and know that you'll only get an offroad enthusiast to pay this amount.
Not knowing prices on a '99, I would say max $15k thinking that a '99 would go for about $10k. If you do sell it, know that you have the extra money to make the '85 a beast...

Built jeeps sell like hot cakes around here, I imagine a 4runner would be no different.

I'm with ebelen1, I think you could probably negotiate between 15-16K.
There is a technique to selling the stuff you have.
1: Price it high with a "firm" tag, but have a buffer of how low you'll go.
At some point you'll get someone who wants to lowball you but will go up on price.
ex:
"Price is 15K firm"
"How about 10K for it?"
*re-establish firm price*
"How about 13K?"
"I'll go as low as X number of dollars"
Simply my views from buying my lexus and whatnot.

I would say 12.5 to 13k max, it is VERY hard to sell a modded vehicle. Maybe if you wait around long enough a buyer looking for exactly what you have will give you 15k, but I think you'll be hard pressed to find buyers with all the aftermarket work. My advice if you have the time, is to part it out. Either way good luck and that was a very well built rig.

I know, one of my thoughts is to keep it and wheel both, but who am I kidding I would end up only wheeling the '85. The '85 doesn't have to be as good as a daily driver though-it will be a trailer queen.

85's are not all that. I'll be at Tellico in the summer and take the 3rd Gen where you can't take the 85.
You'll see. Money Pit.

My Money Pit. Ask the Wabbit about Money Pits and Old Trucks.

Yes, money pit...bottomless money pit...but when she's done it'll be a helluva money pit that'll kick ass.

Some day.

Did you post a mileage on that 99 Brett?
I got 17K for my 00 when I sold it and it was pristine-restored mostly to stock.

If you don't need the money and its paid for then I say keep it. I drive my runner maybe once or twice a week at the most. But its paid for and it gives me no problems, so no reason to sell it.

Can't take the 85...I doubt it. You got too much "shiney" paint for Tellico.

I only drove it 4800 miles this year and now that I have a motorhome and won't need the 4Runner to pull a popup camper, then that number will drop by probably half.

As everyone else has stated it would be best to just tak the aftermarket parts off and restore it close to stock. I think I would be easier to sell and you's make more money. Even if you have to buy some aftermarket bumpers from e-bay or something.

No I'm not kidding and I'm not boasting. We are coming to lay the law down. We'll wheel by ourselves and we'll run everything. No dents.
