Premium JBL system in 03 4Runner

Hi,
I had a few questions for anyone that has tinkered with the Premium JBL system on the 03's...

1) What is the center channel specs? size? type?
2) What is the rear corner tweeters specs? size? type?
3) Does the stock subwoofer have a separate amp from the rest of the system? Has anyone replaced the stock sub?
4) Has anyone removed the center speaker or rear corner speakers? How did you do it?

I really want to upgrade the speakers then do the amps later. I read an aritcle on someone else's upgrade on the forum but I believe it was a regular JBL and not the premium.

Thanks,
Scott

i cant comment on all of the questions you have about the subwoofer and center channel since I do not have these options. But i can say I am 95% sure the subwoofer would have a seperate amplifier. Also no one has replaced the stock subwoofer. They have not yet come out with custom enclosures that would fit where the factory one is located. If you want to replace it you will need a seperate box, or alot of time and fiberglass to make one for where the stock one is located. But it would not be worth the time. Also an aftermarket amp to power it since the factory amp is not worth the space it takes up.

some pdfs to make sure you look at they should help

I found the center channel speaker easy to work with. Just pull the grill straight up (you have to be firm) and the grill will come out.

The JBL speaker will be right there with two bolts holding it down.

I disconnected my center speaker from the head unit and instead, wired my CB radio's optional output to it.

I had to tweak with the bass/treble/fader controls a little after that, but I think it sounds better now.

I used to give my stereo a D- in sound and soundstage. I now consider it a C or C-.

What a waste of money, huh?

1: Can't remeber
2: Never seen one with them, only the lame little kiddie mirrors (maybe thats the GX)
3: Yes it's at the factory sub enclosure. Yes it's a pain in the a$$ and if your gonna keep the factory head unit it for the most part is not worth it (sounds like poop) (yea I called the ˟˟˟˟˟ poop)
4: Center grill comes up like posted earlier and don't know what rear corners your talking about.

I've done about 7-10 of these new JBL 03' Runners I Highly!!! don't recommend trying to add anything to the factory head unit, the signal thats comming out of that head unit is from what I can tell not normal so trying to add an aftermarket amp is very difficult. The best sound that I did get was using JL amplifiers with there internal high level input and I still ended up changing out the head unit a week later. Hope this helps Scott, and if you keep the factory JBL deck good luck!

:pat:
